The Wiz @ Cape Fear Regional Theatre

 Move on down the road with this winner of 7 Tony® Awards including “Best Musical”. This beloved Broadway musical sets Dorothy’s adventures in the land of OZ to music in a dazzling, lively mixture of rock, gospel, and soul! The Wiz is Cape Fear Regional Theatre’s Classic Theatre Series production for the 2015-2016 season and is presented in partnership with Cumberland County Schools, providing an opportunity to engage, entertain, and educate students. Free tickets will be provided to all 11th grade CCS students.

Gallery Exhibit: Romare Bearden – Beat of a Different Drum @ The Arts Council

(NOTE:  The exhibition opening has been rescheduled to Monday, January 25 due to inclement weather)

North Carolina born artist Romare Bearden used collage, watercolor and ink to create distinct works of art in a style all his own.   View the only children’s book ever written and illustrated by Bearden, Li’l Dan, the Drummer Boy: A Civil War Story  during the exhibition  Romare Bearden: Beat of a Different Drum.

This much anticipated exhibition, with related programming that includes lectures, performance and a workshop and  continues through March 5 in the Arts Council Galleries (301 Hay Street).

Exhibit: Edward and Sallie Evans @ Fayetteville Area Transportation & Local History Museum

Remembered by many as the long serving principal of the Orange Street School, Edward Evans was an influential African-American educator in Fayetteville in the early 20thCentury. His wife Sallie Elliott Evans was equally influential as an educator and community leader. Learn more about these two, their family and their efforts toward improving lives and making Fayetteville strong. Opening on Tuesday, Feb. 2, this exhibit is a chance to learn more about the education history of our community.

Valentine’s Carriage Rides

Treat your Valentine to an old-fashioned horse-drawn carriage ride in Historic Downtown Fayetteville. Private rides or group rides are available.

The carriage departs from 222 Hay Street across from the Cameo Art House Theater for a 15 to 20 minute ride over the brick-paved streets of old Fayetteville. Tickets are $15 per adult and $10 for children under 10. You can make it a truly romantic evening by reserving a private carriage just for the two of you for $60.

Tickets may be purchased at 222 Hay Street on the day of the event, but advance reservations are strongly recommended because the Valentine’s rides often sell out.Make reservations now at City Center Gallery & Books or call 910-678-8899 to charge by phone. In the event of bad weather, the Valentine’s rides will be rescheduled to the next day. If in doubt or for additional information, call the Downtown Alliance at 910-222-3382.
